Wolves of the West

Wolves of the West looks to be the start of a new series for Crystal Ash. Nona is the female lead and she is pretty kick ass. I won't get into all the details but she had a mishap in her past that has shaken things up. Her pack had to split up causing her to leave behind her family and friends. She also lost the boy she loved. It's caused her to step into the role she has with her work. She spends her time helping shifters who are in a bad spot. Hoping to help them avoid the pain she felt when she lost everything.

She thought she had left her past behind her but she soon finds out she was wrong. About a lot of things. When her two long lost friends pop back up, she doesn't let them back in easily. Especially when she learns the secrets they've been keeping.

I don't think I've read anything by Crystal before but I have to say I enjoyed this one. Since it is in an anthology it's a shorter story but it has definitely peeked my interest. We have a good amount of action going on and enough story to get me interested in all the characters. We do end on a cliffy. I'll be reading the next book when it comes out so I can see what happens next.

Leaving Tracks in the Snow looks to be just the first three chapters in the Shifter's Dawn series. It's a good intro into what is going to be going on. Elaina finds herself in a predicament. Lost in the snow she's cursing herself for going out alone when she knew she shouldn't. She finds herself rescued by two insanely attractive men. She soon learns they are keeping secrets from her though.

One thing is for sure, this book may be about the snow but it is full of heat. Because it is such a short intro we don't get to learn too much about the characters. I personally didn't feel like I connected with them enough to continue to the next book but that's not saying it's bad in any way. If you want a steamy shifter book to get you going, this is right up your ally.

Mine To Claim

Mine to Claim is book one in the Fated Forever Series by JS Bright and Holy Holston.  This follows the adventures of Sierra Brennan, coyote shifter, who is also a Bail Enforcement agent with her own business that she inherited from her father, who was murdered.  While on a run to bring in a suspected car thief who skipped bail, she never expected to find her soul mate.  Who just so happens to be said car thief Remington Black or Remy.  Neither one are very thrilled.  As if things could not get any more complicated, Sierra finds herself with two more soul mates.  Which is something very rare.  With a business to run, a mystery to solve, a mom to out run and a meddling sister. She does not have time for a mate, let alone three.

I found Mine to Claim a great first look into the Fated Forever Series.  The main character is funny, smart and loyal.  She has a job to do, and she is going to do it.  Her soul mates, are three very different men.  I really like how two out of the three are not thrilled about this, which I find interesting. I will leave it up to you to read all about it! The side characters are funny, Sierra's mom and sister are just as entertaining as Sierra.  I cannot wait to see what happens after the ending, I have to say I was not surprised on it! Good thing we only have to wait til August 6th, Mine to Love will be here before you know it!

This story is a Jungle Book retelling which is pretty cool.

I’ve never seen that particular story retold and for these authors to pick it is unique.

And having it as a reverse harem only adds to the intrigue.

Nadia is an orphaned female human who is found in the deepest part of the jungle by a wolf pack.

She is raised from the age of three until present day, at age twenty.

It is then she meets two traveling shifters who come to her village for trading.

While she had always been in love with her adopted brother Rhet, these other two men pull at her attraction as well.

When danger comes lurking in the form of Khan, the tiger shifter, for Nadia, it is up to these three men to keep her safe.

While this was a unique storyline, I just couldn’t get into it myself.

I mostly skimmed the dialogue and some of the more in-depth plots.

The girl is supposed to be twenty, but she comes across as a naïve thirteen-sixteen year old.

I’m not sure if this was done on purpose, or just how it ended up in the writing.

I could see how she would be naïve because of her situation.

However, another girl in the book around the same age doesn’t seem nearly as naïve.

You would assume if that girl acted in such a way, then Nadia couldn’t be nearly as bad as she is portrayed.

This is a very fast-paced book.

It’s a short story so that is to be the case.

Though I didn’t feel like we got to really know a couple of the characters.

And I didn’t feel like the storyline made complete sense to me.

This may be my own fault, but I still felt like there were a few holes.

I’m not going to say what those are because I don’t want to give away spoilers.

Overall, I think it is an interesting story.

I would say give it a shot and see what you think.

Though it might not be one I would recommend.

Unless someone was looking for this particular retelling.

I was leery of this story in the beginning.

After the prologue, I wasn’t sure I was going to like this story very much.

But it definitely got better.

Told from multiple points of view, you get a sense from everyone about what is going on.

This book is all about supernatural creatures. Witches, gargoyles, psychic, shifters, gods, and demigods.

It was interesting to see how everything played out.

Katarina is a normal human, or so she leads everyone to believe.

When Samara tumbles into outside the club, everything changes.

Not only for Kat, but the guardians who had been sworn to protect Samara as well.

Kat is led on a journey that will have her facing her past, uncovering a deadly betrayal, and finding love.

Though that last one might be put on the backburner until later.

Like I said earlier, I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this book.

However, I ended up really enjoying it.

I fell for Kat and the guys.

I think if the book had been based on Samara, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much.

Something about her personality in that one chapter didn’t really resonate with me.

Though we see her later on in the book, and she seems better, she wasn’t my favorite.

We are left we a cliffhanger, but it isn’t too terribly bad.

Overall, I think it is worth giving it a shot.

Finding Her Dragons

✩✩✩✩

Danica has a big life ahead of her, born one of only females of her generation her family flees with her. Obviously a female in that situation would be wanted by the most powerful evil King, but Danica has zero plans to become a King's broodmare.

I gave this book a four star vs five because it all felt a bit rushed. We'd have a plot curve then jump ahead a week or so narrating what happened during that gap with very little detail. What makes this still a very enjoyable read is story overall and the characters. It was very easy to get into. Danica is a great personality, her parents raised her to be strong and find her inner dragon. Whoops did I forget to mention that? They are all Dragon shifters, hard to go wrong with this combo and story line.

I expect more from this universe to come, the story is reading that we will have a book or two for each female born to their generation, well lets hope at least !
