It's a...Reverse Harem
A river of poison runs through Rose's veins.
Ten years ago, Rose Carrado was just a child who made the mistake of trying to catch snowflakes. Boston was overrun by creatures no human had ever seen, or even believed existed. Rose was easy prey. As she lay bleeding—dying—she came face-to-face with an ancient being, one who commanded her to live.
So she did.
Now a young woman, Rose lives with the consequences of that command. Changed by the creature who bit her, she's a reminder of a time humans want to forget.
But she was left with something else: a connection to those ancient vampires who saved her life so long ago. When brothers Ra, Seti, and Horus return to Boston, the ties that bind them to Rose snap tight. For the first time, they encounter someone who has the power to throw their unending existence into the best sort of chaos, and they won't allow anything—not life, not death—to take her from them.
When Ripley gave us Briar in the Midnight's Crown Series I fell in love. It quickly became my favorite series by this author. Daylight's Crown being a spinoff from that had me super excited. Boy did it not disappoint!! Rose is right up there with Briar. So let's start with, you don't really HAVE to have read Midnight's Crown series to read this series but I HIGHLY suggest that you do. It's ten years later but we do get to see Briar and her guys again. Which by the way I loved!! It will just help you understand a little better the history of all that is happening.
Now Rose, I love her. She is one tough ass cookie. She lives every day with a pain nobody can understand. Not only the physical pain which is intense and some days even crippling. But there is also the emotional pain. Living through what she did. Not having anyone believe her. Not being able to let go of the past, ever. It takes an extremely strong person to deal with what she does and she does it all without complaint for the most part.
Ra, Seti and Horus we briefly met in Midnight's Crown. Existing for as long as they have, they are a pretty tight knit group of brothers. So they are knocked on their asses when Rose enters their lives. They don't know how to deal with the things that are happening to them. They aren't used to attachments that can hurt them. Rose, she can definitely hurt them. Then poor Ra has his own issues when he realizes that one simple choice in his past has left Rose to face the consequences.
These four fumble their way through the changes happening in their lives while trying to get Rose help. As always though, the more you learn, the more questions that pop up and the more secrets that come out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in this new series. I think I finished it in one sitting. Once I picked it up I just didn't want to put it down. It had everything you want in a first book. An introduction to the characters that get you invested. Twists to keep your heart racing, action and violence to gets you on the edge of your seat. Not so much on the sexy times yet but you definitely get a feel for the intense chemistry with this group.
Highly recommend you add this to your TBR. If you liked Midnight's Crown you will love Rose. If you haven't read Midnight's Crown yet, then you have three more books to add to your list b/c they are awesome as well.
