It's a...Reverse Harem
I was once an average college student with dreams of the Olympics. A better future had been within my grasp. I was weeks away from graduating from college, and I had just received my invitation to the National Team. Sure, I was still nursing a broken heart and coming to terms with the betrayal delivered to me at the hands of people I once trusted and loved dearly. However, things were finally looking up. Or so I thought. The news began to report disturbing stories about a new virus. This virus was turning people. The infected became violent and attacking anybody and everybody. My plans for a relaxing weekend with my friends and family turned into a nightmare. We were told to evacuate to Sanctuary. On our journey to safety, I run into old friends and find myself becoming attracted to them and their friends. I realized that even in the most harrowing of times, I could find solace and affection. This may be a whole new world and life wasn’t going to return to normal anytime soon, if ever, but at least I had five men at my side to face it with. *** Sanctuary is a contemporary, post-apocalyptic reverse harem, why choose series. This book contains some triggering content that may be sensitive to some readers. ***

This book has been out for a minute now and I've had it on my list to read. I finally got caught up with ARCs enough that I could sit down and jump in and man, I'm so glad I did. I loved this book so much that I felt I HAD to do a review for you all. Now this is a zombie book and they don't breeze on by any of the zombie stuff. There is no fade to black and focus on the story of the people. We get details. How they look, how they act, how they are killed. Intense fighting scenes, blood and guts. I'm going to detour of course a little for a moment here. I can honestly tell y'all that I have NEVER been a zombie person. I grew up loving horror movies but the one thing I couldn't handle was zombies. Don't know why but I just couldn't do it. So back when The Walking Dead first came out, I refused to watch it. My husband watched the first episode and I went to sleep. He thought it was amazing and ending up talking me into watching the second episode the next week and I was hooked ever since. Until I stopped watching for other reasons but that's totally off topic. My point is, I'm the first person to pass by a zombie movie or book. But I love this author and I had heard great things about this book so I gave it a shot. F'ing loved the hell out of it. I didn't get the heebie jeebies while reading. If you are a fan of TWD, or were at any time, I think I can say you will love this book.

The main focus of this book is Avery. Avery is a twin but her and her sister don't get along. So she's been a little estranged from her family. When the world flips upside down with this virus, she's thrown into a situation where she can no longer avoid them. While Avery may have some self esteem issues, which is totally understandable with her past, she is an extremely strong female lead. Physically she can kick butt with the best of them. She is an extremely likable character. Her guys in this book are strong, caring, all around good guys. Some are new to her and some are familiar. At times I wasn't really digging how their relationship came to be but overall it works.

I think the thing that really gets me about this book, that really sucked me in, was that like TWD that I mentioned earlier, there are so many levels to the story. You don't have just girl meets boys, a little drama, and happily ever after. There are so many things going on. We have this whole new world that we are delving into. We have a whole past of heartache, memories (good and bad) and past relationship dynamics. We have new relationships being formed. We have side characters who have their own story that you want to know all about. We have just a whole world of things that are happening that don't directly effect the relationship we are reading about. It really was like an episode (or first season) of a new tv series.

Now as much as I do love this author, there are some typos in this book. Grammatical errors and spelling errors. Normally that would bug the stew out of me and I would have a hard time reading. This story had me so drawn in that I overlooked them all. I mean, I knew they were there but I didn't have the time to stop and dwell on them or let them pull me out of my reading.

So yea, I say that unless you are just 100% opposed to reading about zombies, you HAVE to give this book a read. This so far is my definite must read book of 2020. I can't wait until the next book comes out.
