It's a...Reverse Harem
Book One:
My clients at my vet clinic have always called me an animal whisperer. I’ve never questioned it. Until I started hearing monsters too.
A man came in right at closing with a sick dog. The dog told me why he was sick and I was able to treat him. I had no idea his owner would kidnap me. I had no idea his owner had an entire dungeon of monsters he wanted me to treat. I’ve met a minotaur, a mysterious kraken, a phoenix, and this really massive spider.
I can hear them too. If monsters are real and I can talk to them, then what am I?
Book Two:
Just when I think things can’t get any crazier…
I found out why I can talk to animals and monsters. I met my father and I wasn’t quite expecting his answers. But he does command several legions of demons and he’s working on getting more to help us overthrow Demeter. We’re going to need all the help we can get because I don’t have enough of Hephaestus’s powder to free every single monster in the pits from being trapped in their monster form by those collars.
My monsters, the ones I’ve gotten to know, can change back to their human form now and they want their revenge on Demeter. They want to save their queen, Persephone. I wasn’t expecting to be brought in on this, but I’m involved now. Even Hephaestus has snuck into the Underworld to help us.
I guess all the unloved Gods and monsters are going to have to go up against a deranged Goddess with Olympus on her side. I’m not a monster or a God. I’m only half demon. But now that my father knows about me, we may have the help of Hell on our side.
I didn’t ask for this, but there’s just something about these monsters that makes me want to help them. It doesn’t hurt that they are all drop dead gorgeous and horrible flirts. I can even overlook that Pavlina and Tryphon like to eat people.
Book Three:
People might used to have worshipped the Olympians, but I never did. I’ll kill every last one of them to get Hephaestus back.
I used to love my Greek mythology classes until I got kidnapped and actually met some Gods. I took Hephaestus as a lover and Hades and Persephone are not all that bad, but the rest of them?
They hurt my monsters. Zeus kidnapped Hephaestus and is doing who knows what to him for making a knife when it was me that used it to kill Demeter. The Olympians took Hephaestus because they can’t even entertain the notion that a lowly half demon killed one of them.
I know why no one said anything when Zeus came to the Underworld. I know there’s a plan to get Hephaestus back. There’s also a lot I don’t know that I need to learn fast. I have this mysterious demonic form from my father that I need to learn to access. Hephaestus made all these weapons capable of taking down Olympians if they came, but I don’t know how to use them. I’m not going to get lucky again like I did with Demeter.
I have to learn all this and I have to learn it in a hurry because I know between Hades and my father, if I don’t, I’ll be grounded in my room when everyone tries to rescue my God. And I’ve got a personal beef with his father for all the hurt he did towards Hephaestus.
Monster Whisperer
I didn't know what to expect going into this book.
The cover and blurb had drawn me in and I was curious to see what it was all about.
And boy am I glad that I dived into this book.
River is a veterinarian and owns her own clinic.
She has a unique gift that keeps her busy with treating animals, but doesn't allow for her to hire help.
Mainly because the pet owners adore River's help and only want her to see their precious animals.
It's this gift that eventually lands her in hot water.
Being abducted into the Underworld is not what River had planned for her Sunday evening.
Finding out that the Greek monsters she had only read about in mythology being real is also not what she had in mind.
Yet, that is exactly what she wakes up to find herself in the middle of.
The Greek God Hades kidnapped River in order for her to save those he considers friends from a hell he didn't want.
But things escalate the more River learns and she knows that she can't turn her back on Hades or these monsters that seem to fascinate her.
This book is not like anything I've ever read before.
It's intriguing.
Fast-paced while still giving you the information you need.
And keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what will happen next.
I'd consider this a slow burn book only because no hanky-panky happened.
Even though the characters were desperate for it to happen.
If you are a fan of Greek mythology and everything it entails, then this is the book for you.
You get to see not only the Gods, but also Demigods, and the monsters many were killing along the way.
Getting a different viewpoint into that life is so interesting and gripping that you won't want to put this book down.
I know I didn't.
Overall, it was a very good book and I rushed to pick up the next one.

Monster Song
I rushed to pick up this book, dying to know what was going to happen next from book one. This book picks up right where book one left off from and takes us on a journey of discovering, love, and sabotage. River is desperate to know who, and what, she is. Everyone else seems to know where she comes from, but doesn't want to divulge that information. Apparently that's something her father wants to do. Learning she can talk to animals, and apparently monsters, wasn't all that new to her. She's been doing it her entire life. As well as being immune to fire. Though that seems to freak out a certain Phoenix shifter. Finding out that she might have other powers to go along with that? Yeah, that's a little harder to comprehend. River's goal though while being in the Underworld is to get the collars off the monsters and allow them to get their human form back. There is only one person, or God, that can help them. And River will do whatever is necessary to get an audience with him. Even if it means going up against a deranged Goddess to do so. In book two, we find out about River's background and heritage. About what makes her who she is. We also learn more about what is going on in the Underworld and what must be done in order to save it. Romances are building and alliances are being made. I will give you guys a heads up though in this one. If you are not a fan of female/female relationships, then I wouldn't recommend reading. Or maybe you can just skip over that little naughty scene. Overall, I very much enjoyed this book as much as the first one. Definitely give it a read. The Call of Monsters Just when we thought things were over, someone else is kidnapped. Book two left us with Demeter being defeated and Persephone being returned to her husband, Hades. River had to make a choice and ended up being the one to kill Demeter with a weapon designed by Hephaestus to destroy a god. They never intended for these weapons to be used again. But a certain god took issue with with it and wanted it for himself. Now the gang has to come together once more to take down those willing to pull Olympus and its occupants further into destruction. I love how River loves. She doesn't take kindly to those who hurt those she considers hers. It doesn't matter if some of that pain was from thousands of years ago. It doesn't matter that the ones she loves don't see it in the same light. They hurt those she cares about and now she wants to hurt them. That is unconditional love. She doesn't think twice about laying waste to those who wronged them. We see River trying to learn and master her powers and demonic form in order to be there for her mate. Though we do see the relationship blossoming even further. Becoming something that neither River or her harem members thought would be possible. *Warning: male/male relationship takes place* This series was a great one and I'm sad to see it end. However, I think everything was tied up nicely. We even get a small look into the future of River and her harem. I will say this because I didn't say it in my previous reviews. I believe some of the characters we meet in this series, especially book 2 and 3, are from other works by this author. You don't have to read the other books for this one to make sense, but I do get the feeling that knowing about them would explain a lot of how they are in these books. I'm definitely going to be checking out other works by this author. She drew me in with her characters, writing style, plot lines, and just overall awesomeness of this series. Definitely curious to see what her other works are like. |
