Charming The Flames, (Soul Charmers)
Serena Lindahl
Goodreads, Amazon
It's a...Reverse Harem
The desert land of Mishok is harsh and unforgiving. Only the nomadic Wayfarers can cross the Great Sands without dying to strange beasts or losing their way. The strange city of Oasis lies in the middle of this wasteland, haven to evil mages who steal the energy, spirit, and virtues of its young population. When Ezriel’s magic makes her a target of the mages, she must sneak into one of the nomadic caravans to escape her city. Fate has a hand in her life, though. Magic begins to return to the Known World; the change has been set in motion by the newly crowned Queen of Megreria. Ezriel has a role to play and the Wayfarer Clan of the Flames is Fated to assist her. When they realize they are pawns of mysterious and vindictive Gods, will it bring them together or tear them apart? Can the nomadic men deny their traditions to share and love one woman? Are they strong enough to fight a battle that has been waging for centuries?
***This is a medium-burn reverse harem fantasy with strong character development and world building. It ties into the Soul Tenders Trilogy, and the recommended order to read is by publishing date, but they can be read in any order. Scenes and content intended for 18+***

Ez has spent her entire life trying to hide from the Seerers. Trying to escape the same fate that has fallen upon her two sisters. When dark forces get too close for comfort, Ez must face an entirely different kind of danger. Oasis may be a dark and dangerous place but the desert beyond the city is deadly. There is a reason only the Wayfarers travel to and from other cities. If the sands choose, you will perish quickly. Luckily for Ez, the Red Clan seems to have taken an interest in her. They secure her passage to their home until she can decide her plan of action. All of their plans get changed when Ez is forced to use her magic in a way she never has before. Now they are on a whole new journey. While some are excited and ready for this journey, others don't seem to like the changes happening. Can they survive not only the dangers of their new task, but the dangers to their hearts as well?

Let me just get this out of the way first b/c I don't want to spend my review comparing Charming the Flames to the Soul Tenders series. Yes they are related. Things that happened in the Soul Tenders series set in motion the things that are happening in the Soul Charmers series. They are so completely different though. Megreria is mentioned and the characters from the Soul Tenders series are mentioned in passing as just the New Queen and her Soul Matches. That's pretty much it though as far as the characters. The cities are the same that were mentioned in the first series. I don't recall any other cross over characters though. The magic is different in this series as well. While I gave the first book in the Soul Tenders series four stars if I remember correctly b/c of the world building that was done, I do not feel that way at all with this book. There was of course a lot of world building in this book as well but I feel like it was more seamlessly woven into the story as it went rather than an overload of info at once.

Now on to the story itself. I love the concept and story line that we have here. Oasis has been abusing magic to an extent that nobody outside of it seems to realize. Even some of the characters inside the walls of Oasis have no idea the depths that people have gone to in order to keep things the way they are. With their magic supply decreasing though, things are taking a turn for the worse. That's what gives our little Ez the kick in the booty to risk the desert. The only way across the desert though is with one of the Warfarer Clans.

I love love love the Wayfarers. Each of them are so different and bring something special to the family. They have magic of their own. I even love the moms of the Clan which is highly unusual for me. All of the characters are just so engaging that you can't help but be drawn to them. Of course once we get back to camp we have secrets coming out, assassins on the loose and some powerful magic at hand that send all their plans into a completely different direction. I love that there was never a single moment while I was reading that I wasn't fully involved in the book.

We have a ton of different POV in this book which I love. We even get a POV from someone outside of the main circle. I was a little confused by this at first but once you get further into the book, you totally understand why that POV was necessary. My view on this particular character changed over the series as well.

I most definitely recommend that you read this book is you like magic, action, adventure and a building of relationships as you go. Even if you weren't a fan of the Soul Tenders Series, you should give this one a shot b/c I really did fall in love with this book far faster.
