City of Demons, (Chronicles of Arcana)

It's a...Reverse Harem

If Buffy and Angel could have banged without him going all evil, then we would have had Wilomena Bastion.

Dragons suck, like literally suck the life out of you if you let them. Trick is not to look them directly in the eyes, like ever. So, the day Wila finds herself staring into the most dangerous Draconi’s pretty, emerald peepers, she knows she’s royally fucked. No one said saving a bunch of kids from being served up as treats to the dragon liege was going to be easy. Options are limited—immediate execution or servitude, and Wila prefers to have her head remain firmly on her shoulders. Now, the self-professed dark avenger must work to bring down a resistance of demons hell-bent on making life difficult for the dragon liege. And, if that wasn’t bad enough, her new position comes with a partner, the dragon liege’s favoured demon enforcer; a creature of fire, fury and washboard abs who—let’s face it—is just gonna cramp her style. With the help of a ghostly receptionist, a talking dog and the thing that lives in the basement, Wila will be forced to take on a most dangerous task. It looks like some serious brooding is on the menu, because for the first time in forever, Wila isn’t sure she’s up to the job.

A city filled with monsters needs a woman who can kick ass, and Wilomena Bastion is just the gal for the job. A kick-ass Urban Fantasy with a slow burn Reverse Harem Romance.

In City of Demons we have the female lead Wilomena, Wila Bastion who is being commissioned in rescuing a bunch of school kids from an orphanage by Adam Noir.  Adam is an Arcana, a magic wielder. He is enlisting Wila's help in finding the children because his daughter was on that bus that was going to tour the Draconi territory.  Due to political reasons and him being  Arcana, he only has Wila to turn to, to bring home the kids from the orphanage.  Knowing this could be a death sentence, Wila agrees to take the case.  After all going into Dragon territory, knowing their penchant for neph flesh may not be the best of ideas.  But Wila is not afraid of a little danger, in fact she lives for it.

I really love Debbie Cassidy's writing style, so I was very much looking forward to this new series.  And let me tell you it does not disappoint.  I do believe Wila will become my favorite female lead from Ms. Cassidy.  She is fun, witty, sarcastic, and just bada@@.  I am really liking the side characters and the leading men.  This is looking to be a slowburn RH, which I find very enjoyable.  I mean how fun is it to have a talking Jack Pomeranian, who in his former life was a Private Detective.  Who steals a lot of the scenes he is in.  She also has a ghost named Gilbert Smyth her resident ghost, who helps her out a lot.  She also has a voice that lives in her house. He keeps asking Wila to let him out, but she knows that is not a good idea.  I must know who and what he is.  Then there is the players.  We have Adam Noir who I thought was maybe not trustworthy, but really seems to come through and help out Wila a lot. Lots of chemistry with these two.  Then there is Taylem, who owns the tavern where Wila goes with his twin brother.  Yeah they hooked up once, but she keeps fighting it for reasons you will learn.  We also have Valance, and his introduction to Wila, I found very entertaining.  He is dangerous and sneaky.  And lastly Azren, who I found a touch scary. He may just be my favorite.

I don't want to give to much away, but I will say that City of Demons was everything I enjoy in a good paranormal RH.  Fun female lead, slower burn romance, lots of storyline that keeps your attention, twists and turns.  Not really a cliffhanger, just a perfect ending that will keep your interest for book two.  Overall, my opinion is don't miss this series, its going to be a good one.
