Diadem of Blood and Bones, (Midnight's Crown)
Ripley Proserpina
Goodreads, Amazon
It's a...Reverse Harem
Sacrifice.... Transformation… It all comes down to the final battle... Forced to choose between her life and the lives of the vampires she loves, Briar made the ultimate sacrifice. For her, a world without Marcus, Hudson, Sylvain, and Valen was inconceivable. But her vampires didn't accept her decision, and at the last moment, transformed her from woman to immortal. Awakened to a new, utterly different life, the sun can finally shine on Briar Hale. With eternity in front of her, all she sees is love and hope. So when the creatures of darkness threaten everything she holds dear, Briar will not surrender. She's stronger now and she has a vampire inside her ready to go to war. Can Briar hold onto herself while protecting those she loves? Or will she give into her new power, and become her worst nightmare?

Briar had to make a choice. Save herself or the four men that she loved. She chose them. They couldn't live their eternity with that choice though and made one of their own. But Briar has always been different. Even as a vampire Briar doesn't fit into the mold. They don't have time to figure out what or why though b/c with Asher gone, the vampire world is thrown into chaos. Crawlers and soldiers with no leader are terrorizing Boston. With evil wanting to take over, a vampire war is brewing. Can the group come together to fight them off while being forced apart?

This is the last book in Briar's story and man what an ending. We had a feeling that we would end up with Briar turning but I don't think anyone imagined the circumstances that would lead her there. And of course she couldn't just be like every other vampire. She's too unique. I love the little twists we get with her. It's great to see the transformation that Briar has made over the series too. The guys as well. They have lost so much over the years and to finally be able to come back together as family is great. So yes someone has to come in and try to rip it all apart. It wouldn't be much of a story if it was just Briar and the guys learning to deal with her new life. Nope, we need some vampire war and some twists from the past to spice things up. That they did. Boston is being torn apart and Briar is none too happy about it. Neither is her new vampire side.  We got a good amount of drama and action. We also had some really emotional one on one time with the guys too. Having thought they'd lost her forever, they are all dealing in their own way.

Then there's what happens at the end. Oh my heart! I love love love how Ripley wrapped everything up to give us our happy ever after. I'm sad to see the series over as it is my favorite of Ripley's but it was a great ending. I'm looking forward to what she ventures into next.
