While Beauty Sleeps, (Once Upon a Harem Book 7)
Riley Proserpina
Goodreads, Amazon
It's a...Reverse Harem
“She shall prick her finger on a spinning wheel, and fall to sleep...” There once was a girl who was born to be cursed. By no fault of her own, she was doomed to remind her kingdom of everything ugly. No matter how many good deeds she did or how kind she was, it was her destiny to die, and take her kingdom with her. Her mother and father wept when they saw her, and the witch who cursed her celebrated gleefully as each year passed. Except there was hope. Her sisters, older and wiser, and with no small amount of magic of their own, countered the witch's curse. If Kumiko could be loved, truly loved, the curse would be broken, and everyone would see what the witch had hidden. But all her life, Kumiko had been let down—by the parents who hid her away and by an ill-fated curse. Until they arrived. Four princes, full of smug confidence and pride, were determined to break the princess's curse before her twenty-first birthday. All they had to do was fall in love.

Releases July 24th

This is a contemporary Reverse Harem re-telling of the story of Sleeping Beauty. Honestly I kind of think Ripley cheated a little and added a twist of another fairy tale in here, but that would be spoiler if I told you which one 😉😂😉😂 I thought it was pretty awesome, I've always enjoyed Ripley Proserpina's style of writing. It is very fresh with new angles you've never read before. You start the story not really sure what you are getting into with her books. I love getting into a new book going "ok I'm sure I'll like this.... but where IS she going with this ??"

So something important to keep in mine when writing books that are retelling of classic fairy tails is you can loose the element of surprise. I was so excited to find many surprises in this book, I love the relationship build how it was so instant yet still had a slow build to it. So her three fairies are represented by her three old sisters. I don't know about you but the scene in Disney's Sleeping Beauty where they are making Aurora's birthday cake and dress was one of the biggest things that has stuck in my memory after all these years. Kumiko's sisters have that balance of all different personalities that somehow are perfect to help to save their beloved little sister. The four Princes are from lessor Kingdoms and come for not 100% honorable reasons. They are there because they are putting their Kingdom's before themselves. But they quickly attach to Kumiko and between her bravery to fight for her life despite years of heartbreak and disappointment, they quickly change their goals. My favorite thing about this series is all of the RH standalones being produced. I love series too, but sometimes I want to get a whole story in one read... I NEED MY HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!!
