It's a...Reverse Harem
On the brink of losing her position as a maid and with no prospects to go on, the offer of a place at Rooksgrave Manor—a house of ill and unusual repute—sounds like a perfect fit for a young woman with Esther’s inclinations. Even better, the invitation comes by the hand of the handsome Dr. Underwood, a delicate gentleman with a ferocious alter ego who knows exactly what he wants from Esther.
Upon arrival, the men and the daily decadence of the manor feel too good to be true for a girl of Esther’s station. There are rules to be followed, expectations to meet, and Esther is afraid she might be too wicked even for a place like Rooksgrave.
Temptations lurk around every shadowy corner and Esther has never been a girl able to resist. But the risk of disappointing her new gentlemen isn’t all that’s threatening Esther’s new position. Rooksgrave Manor’s protections for its unusual patrons are failing, the wards are crumbling, and Esther’s new and exquisitely pleasurable life may all come tumbling down.
And boy was I in for one heck of a ride.
A good one.
This book takes place in Victorian times which normally I am not a fan of (anything historical isn't really my cup of tea) but this one definitely had something that caught my attention.
She has a healthy appetite for things of the sexual nature.
And she seeks out ways to sate those hungers.
Even at the cost of her job.
On the brink of losing another job, this time not for her willy ways, she is offered a chance at a new place.
Somewhere this man thinks that she will fit in just right.
Though it seems even among the ladies at this place she isn't quite like the others.
This time in a good way.
I absolutely love that Esther isn't afraid to voice that she enjoys time in the bedroom with her companions.
That she isn't afraid to voice what she likes and what she'd like to try.
Working in what is essentially like a brothel, she has her choice of men to choose from.
However, the lady who runs the place, a witch, likes to make matches that are well-suited to both the gentleman and the lady.
Though gentleman may be a stretch of the word when in fact the men who accompany the manor are monsters.
Creatures of legend.
He is also a monster with a split personality under the name, Mr. Tanner.
She also has a vampire, golem made of marble/stone, a sphinx, and an invisible man.
Considering how you look at it she has either five or six men.
Dr. Underwood and Mr. Tanner can't exactly be out at the same time. And they are so completely different that you would have to consider them two separate entities.
Each of these men bring something to Esther that she didn't know that she was missing out on.
Intimacy.
While she loves getting between the sheets, she's found that it is the other things they do for her that she is beginning to crave.
Absolutely adored it.
It was so completely different from anything I had ever read before.
And I enjoyed that so much.
It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger.
And I'm saddened to find out that we have to wait until May of 2022 to get the next one.
However, looking at the synopsis I have a feeling we will be getting it from a different characters point of view.
Though it will tie into what is happening in this book.
Overall, a fantastic read and one I think I'll be placing on my re-read list for future smutty needs.
Book two, The Company of Fiends, releases May 25th, 2022.
