Do you like retellings as much as I do?
If so, you are in for a treat with this book.

I had not read the blurb or anything about this book prior to the author reaching out to me.
The cover was interesting but I was a little, not exactly hesitant, but some unknown emotion to reading it.
I just wasn't sure how I would feel about the book and that always delays my reading.
Well I'm glad I put my big-girl panties on and dived into this book.
It was something so amazing, I didn't know I had been missing out.
I have no idea what book two could possibly hold, but I'm definitely curious to find out.

**Beware! Spoilers Ahead**

Uschi, or how most of us will know her as Ursula, is living a life of solitude after angering the wrong god.
Though to be fair, his daughter should have known what was expected of her due to the deal she struck with the sea witch.
But they never learn. They are too blinded by their own wants and needs they don't read the contract.
How is that Uschi's fault?
When her shot at revenge and clearing her name presents herself, she will do what needs to be done to exact it.
Though love was never supposed to be part of the deal.

Little Mermaid is probably one of my all-time favorite Disney movies.
But this retelling is a little more sinister and doesn't follow the heroine but the villain.
If you want to call Uschi that.
I love seeing another side of this character we all thought we knew.
It's sort of like Maleficent. She turned out to not be anything like we had assumed and you fall in love with her.
I did the same with Uschi.
She is fierce, loyal, and independent.
Everything and more I love to see in a female character.

This book is broken into three sections.
And each dives into a different part of Uschi's journey with the four selkie shifters.
While also introducing other characters to us.
This book is heavy in mythology, and not just Greek.
We see Aztec, Roman, Hawaiian, and a few others.
It's interesting to see how everything plays out and connects.
I'm always up for some mythology, but it was fun to see how all the gods and goddesses worked together instead of being so segregated.

I wouldn't call this your normal reverse harem.
At one point, I didn't think it was going to have the happily ever after that we all were desperately seeking.
But everything worked out in the end.
I would classify this as a medium-burn romance. There are intimate scenes, but many are fade to black scenes.
While I'm always up for some steaminess between characters, I didn't see this taking away from the storyline.
I'm actually a fan of how that was pushed to the background and the plot and romance was more the frontline than intimacy. So many books are all about the fluff of this that it sometimes does more harm than good.

The point of my rambling is to say I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait to see what else is in store.
Whether it be these characters, or someone else, is totally fine with me.
I think the only negative thing I have to say is that I wish we saw a little further into the future with these guys.
We get an epilogue and it gives us insight into what is currently happening, but I'm the type of reader that wants every little nitty gritty detail about the characters I'm reading about. Give me five years into the future, ten years, anything.
Other than that, it is a solid five star read.
I highly recommend picking it up and giving it a read.
It doesn't leave you with a cliffhanger. Or feelings deprived of anything (unless you are like me and always want more).

This author did a phenomenal job of creating a uniquely original story with characters we've seen and read before.
Very well done job.
