It's a...Reverse Harem
My dad’s an asshole. Plain and simple.
He’s made it obvious that I can only ever rely on myself.
Until I meet them.
Caden, Tyler, Jensen, and Lukas.
My new stepbrother and his best friends have suddenly become my everything.
Until they aren’t.
They think they can break me, but they’re dead wrong.
They wouldn’t have bet on me having someone else on my side, or in my bed.
These rich boys haven’t seen anything yet.
Their pretty lies are nothing compared to what’s coming though, and I’m going to need them to anchor me when I finally break.
Death is coming to those who deserve it, and I don’t care if I lose myself in the process.
Did I mention the local street crew being on my side?
No one will ever see me coming.
My name’s Rory Donovan, and I’m about to paint the walls red.
*Pretty Lies is a 75k word dark romance reverse harem novel. This is the first book in the series and it must be read in order. The first four books are Rory's, and the harem grows over those books, so other guys will be added as the story goes. It contain abuse and rape content, and the series will have m/m. If you are triggered by sensitive content, this series is not for you.
**Trigger Warning**
There is a brief warning in the blurb about this book but I just want to confirm that here for you. If you have hard limits concerning rape and knife play, then this is not the book or series for you.
I'm going to start with my only negative thing I will have to say about this book, but it is kind of a two-parter.
First, the timeline wasn't clear for me.
Wasn't sure if it was happening in a short amount of time or if it was actually spread out further and wasn't aware of that.
Because of that I was a little iffy on how quick the heroine fell for the guys.
Especially after all the trauma she went through.
Cause even if the timeline is somewhat spaced out, I think she still put too more trust into these guys too quickly.
I'm not a big fan of insta-love stories to begin with, but when they revolve around trauma with the main character, I find it hard to believe they would give in to someone so quickly.
And it didn't just happen once, but twice in this book.
She forgave them quite quickly later on in the book after they had betrayed the trust she'd given them in the first place.
Other than this, I really enjoyed the book.
Aurora, or Rory has many call her, didn't grow up with the easiest life.
Yet, she doesn't let this hold her back.
She is just counting down the days until she turns 18 and she can get away from it all and start anew.
However, a minor wrench is thrown in her plans when her father announces they are moving in with his new girlfriend, her son, and will also be attending a new school.
A new school that has someone from her past she wasn't ready to see again.
She thought that she was unbreakable; however, they proved her wrong.
But maybe they didn't?
Maybe their lies only made her stronger and made her into what she was really meant to be.
This book actually finishes up pretty nicely and though there are more books in the series following these characters, I could be quite content leaving it here.
I did read the blurbs for the other books and see that I think another guy or two will be added to the harem. As well as some M/M action taking place (or see some of this developing in this book but nothing set in stone).
All your questions as to what is going on are answered.
The harem is mostly established and on it's way to working with some key components needing to be ironed out.
As well as all the "bad guys" getting their comeuppance.
I'm not sure if I will continue on at the moment, but I think you could easily get swept away by the characters and storyline of this series.
Caden, Tyler, Jensen, Lukas, and *spoiler* Skeeter are the men of the harem.
Lukas is the blast from the past who has a reasonable explanation for why things went down the tube when they were younger.
Caden is the stepbrother who just wanted to put the girl in her place but was given as good as her gave.
Tyler is just along for the ride until things start to unravel and he realizes he was in deeper than he expected.
Jensen knew from the beginning that things would take a turn for the worst, but kept his mouth shut until it was too late.
Skeeter came out of left field but is the one who knows what his woman is worth and knows that she deserves far better than him.
Overall, I enjoyed the story as a whole.
Would recommend if you are looking for a specific trope of bloodshed, dark romance, and strong female characters who kick butt and take names with no apologizes.
There are currently eight books in the series, I believe the first four follow these specific characters around and then the others will follow second hand characters that get introduced throughout.
However, I don't know that for a fact since I haven't read them.
