Okay fans of Scarlett's work of the Zara Chronicles, East Raven Academy and The Spy Chronicles will definitely enjoy this new shifter series from her.  Set in the same tone and YA as the other series, however Different is set in a faster pace on romance, because Penelope knows she has four mates, and she has feelings back for them.  However I do feel this will still be a slower pace on the romance front, so we get to enjoy the story and the characters development better.

Penelope, bless her heart is young at 17 almost 18, she has kept herself from touching people because of her gift.  She has never had any boyfriends, is shy, and has always had siblings to watch over her.  I am looking forward to seeing her grow as a character and into who she is meant to be.
Liam, Alpha, he is protective by nature, but since stumbling upon Penelope he is even more so.  He definitely has that Alpha trait and is quickly my favorite.  The other three Aiden, Cole and Parker, are also wolf shifters and are behind Liam in the hierarchy with Cole as Beta and Parker third with Cole fourth in command.  They are destined to be the leaders, and they all share one mate.

I found the story itself different and fun.  I like the idea of a young girl knowing she is different and going on a journey to find out who and what she is.  And of course it doesn't hurt to have four hot guys to help her along the way.  Fans of YA RH Paranormal will enjoy this beginning of a new series just as much as I did.

When their parents died in a car accident, Adelaide and her sister had to move to York, to a house that was left to her in her parents will.    Moving to the small village is a change from where they used to live.   Once they arrive, Adie meets the neighbor Rick, who is a sexy shifter.  Not only is he outrageously attractive but so are his roommates.  But Adie does not have time for romance, not with a younger sister to look after.  She is just trying to keep what they are hidden so they do not become hunted.  But there is more to this small town, something the boys next door need to keep a secret of why they are really there.  They offer Adie their protection, if she keeps their secret.  But what they don't know is that sometimes fate will happen no matter how much time has past.


Adelaide's Fate is a spinoff of the Her Guardians series.  It features Freddy, aka Rick,  who is Winter's stepson, who is a half-vampire and half wolf shifter. And Adelaide, who after her parents died got custody of her 15 year old sister.  I really love Adie and Sophie's relationship, and how mature and responsible she is.  Not only is she tough but she is a total sweetheart as well, which makes for a character you love to read about.  I fell for her from the start.  Gem does a fantastic job of creating each of the guys with totally different personalities, and as always has great chemistry with them all.  All the guys are half-breeds and are just as interesting and hot as I knew Rick would be.  We do get to see cameos of Winter and her guys, and really you don't have to read the Her Guardians series to fully understand this one, but it is fun to know of them and who they are to Rick.  There is a cliffhanger that is like a what the hell moment, but it is a really good one.  Overall I give this series 5 stars, and a must read for the RH paranormal fan.

Kayla Harlow tends to be somewhat unlucky.  I mean how unlucky is it that your boss dies.  And not only dies, but dies after you summon a demon to teach said boss a lesson.  She only told the demon to make sure her creepy boss was gone, not dead,  just gone.  Add in the fact that she is now the number one suspect.  With a freaking hot black witch/vampire detective that seems to be everywhere.  A Demon cat that she is connected to until a deal is completed. A mysterious encounter with a fae prince that does such deliciously naughty things to her body with his inappropriate nearness.  And having to deal with feelings for a friend that used to be more, who wants to be more again.  Kayla has her hands full, also trying to find the real killer to clear her name.  What is an unlucky witch to do???


I have to say, I really freaking enjoyed Black Spells and Twisted Souls.  I was invested from page one until the end. Which the end does leave off on a cliffhanger but it was a "What the hell just Happened" good cliffy that had me smiling and laughing, saying freaking A what a sneak.  Totally a good ending.  Now the characters themselves were well written and so damn fascinating.  Kayla, seems like such a likable and funny character.  She is a good witch, who I found funny, witty, fun, loyal and I loved her throughout the book.  Lizzy, is a good friend to Kayla and I enjoyed her loyalty to her friend.  Darren came as a surprise, I thought he was a good friend, and he is.  But as the story unfolds we learn more about their relationship and what happened before.  I must say I am on board with them together.  Kier is freaking hot, and intense.  Being the detective you can tell he takes his job serious but you don't know if he is following her so much because of the job, or because of more.  Solas, I have to say that I was interested in him from the beginning.  I feel that there is so much more to his story and I want to hear it all.  And lastly Rhydian, wholly hot momma. From his first scene with Kayla to his last he is such a naughty man.  I love him so much. I do believe he will be my favorite.

Adding all of these interesting characters, finding a killer, trying to right a wrong, dealing with a demon, dealing with an ex who wants more, and two new men who both keep showing up when she least expects them.  This is going to be a freaking fun series, and I cannot wait for more.

I am a huge G. Bailey fan, I enjoy all of her books and how her devious mind works.  But I will say that I believe that the Protected by Dragons series is one of my favorites of hers.  First, I love dragons.  Second, I love a good paranormal RH. And Third, its G. Bailey.  Wings of Spirit has Isola fighting to save Korbin from the poison going through his body.  But with the help of her guys, Melody and even Bee Isola will stop at nothing to achieve this goal.  The Seers offer aide but at a price, which she will pay.  As always Gem writes a vivid image of Dragca, and  you get caught up in the characters and theirs struggles.  Their relationships and how they build at just the right pace. And as always Gem likes to throw in twists and turns, leaving me going where did that come from? Or Ah, now it makes sense.  Isola and her guys are becoming closer, more of a unit.  The dynamic between them all is growing stronger as well as the chemistry for me.  Overall this is a great third installment that keeps your interest in the series, and moves things along at a good pace.  The ending is a cliffhanger that did leave me saying, "Oh Hell No!! But it is a good lead and storyline for book four.

Also I would just like to add that I love these covers.  Gem has some of the best covers I have seen.

In Heart of the Assassins we pick up where Academy leaves off.  Morgan is training hard to control her powers.  But what the guys don't understand is that she needs them to be her family not her protectors.  She is getting frustrated and angry, and it is driving a wedge between them.  Guys, being guys, are completely oblivious to what they are doing.  When she finally cant take anymore she tells them enough is enough, than the school is attacked.  With the not so subtle help of a gargoyle she is transported to the Primordial realm to keep her safe.  But there she is not really safe either.  For there is a fog that is covering the land and destroying/changing life there.  It is up to Morgan and her group to find the answer and stop the fog from destroying everything.

Academy of Assassins hooked me on this series, Heart of the Assassins just cemented to me my addiction.  Morgan is a interesting and kick ass female lead who can hold her own.  She does not need anyone to protect her, she just wants to be part of the team.  I understand her frustration with the guys.  They push, shield her and she finally has enough and tells them about it.  She knows that they just want to protect her but she has had enough.  When she is pushed through to the Primordial realm
both she and the guys take a good look at their relationships.  This is a slow burn RH, and that stays the same, but we do move forward some.  I will say that I was upset with Atlas but he did redeem himself.  Kincade eases up some and becomes exactly what she needs.  Ryder, love that he is coming out of his shell some.  Ascher, just yum!!!! And then we have Draven, wow he is packing a secret that Morgan will not like, I know I didn't. They are a good team, and we get a chance to see them get closer. That being said there is lots of action, mystery, imagery, new characters and just really good word building.  A great second addition to the Assassins series.

Nora Jacobs Series:
Don't Rush Me
Don't Cheat Me

Nora Jacobs is slowly getting used to life in the paranormal world.  I guess that is what happens when you room with a troll.  An overprotective troll at that.  After all not every human gets to be clan, let alone be the only one in Terrance's clan. When she starts working at his bar as a bartender things definitely get more interesting.  Not only does she get to work with her friends, it also serves a purpose to show the supernatural community that she if off limits and under Terrance's protection.  After an incident involving a faerie, Nora is offered to be trained in defense from Wulf.  With her past history she does not like to be alone with men, so Wulf takes her to his old pack's gym.  There she meets Wulf's brother Rook, who agrees to train her.  Both find a quick friendship with no expectations, but lots of chemistry.  When she meets the alpha, she is asked to help find who has been taking money from the pack.  Thus setting off a chain of events that no one could see coming.

Okay I really enjoyed Don't Rush Me, but with Don't Cheat Me, I freaking loved it!!!  I love Jackie May's writing style and the pace of this series.  It is defiantly a slower paced, but it fits the story perfectly.  If you have read book one you know why Nora is wary around men.  She is so strong and a great character.  She is funny, sassy, strong, loving, fair, and yeah people have hurt her but she does not let anyone walk all over her.  In DCM she finds her voice more I believe, she has such a great support system in her friends.  Yes some want to be more, but they are patient and will wait for her.  We have her usual guys Terrance, Nick aka Gorgeous, Parker, Rook, Oliver and a small cameo from Henry. The guy we love to hate.  Our new guy Rook, man I fell for him so hard.  He has a past, and when it is revealed on what it is, it just made me fall for him harder. He has moved to my fave, with Nick in second place. The chemistry that Nora has with them all, how they each help her in a certain way, going at the pace that is just right for her, the banter that they all share is gold! We get a good look into the werewolf culture, and the politics of the pack.  Nora being Nora uses her gifts to help the alpha, asking for nothing in return but just to help. Adding to another reason why I love this character.  She is like all the female leads rolled into one.  Also, we have always known that Nora had to be something different, we get to find out what she is!!! I had an idea but was it great to have puzzle pieces fall into place.  Not really a cliff hanger, just a good lead into book three whenever it comes, hopefully soon. I would recommend reading book one first, so it gives you background for book two. This series has become one of my favorites, it is definitely a must read series.

This book has a unique and interesting concept.
It was well-written and well laid out.

I don't want to give too much away with this story, but this is what I do have to say.

This story starts off with Riley's family gone.
No evidence to where they could have gone.
The police believe the husband packed up the children and left on his own accord.
But Riley knows he would never do such a thing.
Unable to cope with the pity from friends and the sea of grief threatening to pull her under, Riley decides to do something productive with her life.
She trains her body, getting stronger and learning different fighting techniques.
She also learns how to handle a gun on the off chance she will find out what happened to her family.
When an FBI agent shows up on her doorstep five years later, the simple encounter changes her life forever.


The author incorporated themes readers are well versed with, however, the approach is different.
I've never really studied Inca mythology, but I thought it was so cool how it was brought into the plotline.
There are various genres I can see this book covering and I think it will be interesting to see how it will play out.

With all this being said, I personally didn't get into the book.
I struggled with one aspect of the story and it carried throughout.
I found myself having a hard time making it through the entire book.
It wasn't anything bad, but just a personal preference to reading.

Normally, I would have given this book only 3 stars.
But since it is so well-written, so many intricate worlds, I couldn't justify just giving it 3 measly stars.
4 stars it had to be.
I could very easily see this one having 5 stars if I had enjoyed it more.

This author I think will be able to capture readers easily with this book.
I think many will enjoy and recommend it to others.
It just wasn't for me.
I can see myself recommending it if I see someone looking for something along these lines.
Just not an everyday recommendation.

I fully advise other readers to make their own opinion about this book though.
Read it for yourself to get an idea for it.
I think it might surprise you.

Serenity and the MPD have a major fight on their hands.  The shades have taken neph and human alike as hosts. Their thirst for vengeance and violence exhausting.  Their leader Asher will stop at nothing to accomplish their goal. It is up to Serenity and the protectorate to do all that they can to stop this new enemy.  But with new players on the team, and a loss that devastates Serenity as well as the team, how do you continue to have hope, when all hope is lost? Or is it!

With each installment we get more action, more romance, and I fall deeper in love with this series.  A lot happens in Shades of Midnight, I wont be able to give any spoilers but I can tell you that things start to piece together.  Players are revealed, allies will be made, a loss with a gain, and the romance kicks up a notch.  Serenity is a strong female lead, but she does have a breaking point.  I feel that she almost reached it. Without giving anything away I will say that she is protective of her guys, and loves them deeply. She has been through so much in her life, my heart broke for her and for this character.  I really liked him, and I am sad. However I will say is he really gone, or just dormant? This can actually be said about another character as well.   If you remember in the previous books, the Drayton/Xavier storyline, we get more of it in SOM.  I was riveted with their scenes together. Also there is a love interest of Serenity's that I am like finally!!! I do believe we are all on the same page by the end.  There is a lot going on with the storyline, I did not see a few things coming but that is just what makes SOM so good.  Lots of action, ass kicking, drama, heartache, WTH moments, happiness, and lots of pleasure.  There is a small cliffhanger at the end but its more along the lines of a gentle wave and not a tsunami.  Over all Shades of Midnight is a must read in the Chronicles of Midnight series.
