Briar, (Midnight's Crown)
Ripley Proserpina
Goodreads, Amazon
It's a...Reverse Harem
The sun is Briar Hale’s enemy. All her life she’s been in the shadows, sheltered and protected, warned and smothered. Not anymore. Briar is ready to take control of her life, and step out into the sunlight for the first time. A newly enrolled graduate student at Boston College, she’s determined to discover why her body betrays her. And she knows just the scientist to help her. Professor Hudson Nors has secrets of his own—secrets he’s kept for eternity, and which he never wants to see the light of day. No matter how wonderful Briar smells, and how important she feels, Hudson decides the best thing he can do for her is stay away. Suddenly, Briar, with her strange condition and boundless curiosity, turns the world Hudson’s spent centuries perfecting, upside down. But this pale, fragile girl has a spine of steel, and if Hudson won’t help her, she’ll find someone who will. By a luck, or fate, Briar meets Hudson’s brothers, Marcus, Valen, and Sylvain. Like Hudson, they can sense this human girl means something important to all of them. But what could four, vampire brothers possibly have to offer a human? Unwittingly, Briar brings together these immortal brothers, and teaches them, eternity is too short to give up on hope. ***Briar is the first book in the Midnight's Crown series. A slow-burn reverse harem romance***

Releases 11/9

Briar has had a hard life. You can only imagine the difficulties of not being able to go out into the sun. She's decided she will not let that stop her from achieving her goals though. Briar's on her own for the first time in her life. She's ready, come what may. She knew it would be difficult but the world she finds herself in is way more than she ever thought possible.

I'm going to be honest with you guys, I have enjoyed all of Ripley's books, RH and non RH. No doubt about that. However, they usually take me a while to really get invested in them. By the end I'm in love and dying for more but they all have taken a few chapters to really grab me. NOT THIS BOOK! I was hooked from the very beginning with this one. Briar is such a unique character. She's been through so much but she doesn't feel like the world owes her anything. She's just determined to stand on her own, attend college and find out as much about her condition as she can. She's incredibly smart and fascinated by Hudson and the work he has done. Even though she keeps running into obstacles, she doesn't give up.

The guys grabbed me right up, too. You think Hudson is some arrogant prick who thinks he's better than everyone else at first, then you realize why he is the way he is. All four guys have interesting pasts that just draw you in. They used to be a family until tragedy tore them apart. They have to see each other every 6 months but other than that, they are all perfectly fine pretending the others don't exist. Until Briar. There's just something about her that they can't resist. Unfortunately for them all, they aren't the only ones she's captured the attention of.

So yea, this is by far my favorite book Ripley has written. I was drawn in by the characters and their stories. I was held captive by the action and suspense. I'm left wanting more more more.

This is a slow burn so we don't have any sexy times yet but we have some definite chemistry going on .

Make sure you follow Ripley here so you know what's coming next.
