The Arbiter, (Divinely Damned)
K.B. Ladnier & Brandy Slaven
Goodreads, Amazon
It's a...Reverse Harem
"She is too sinful to be Divine and too righteous to be Damned." Nocturna; a hybrid, an all around smart ass, and the owner of The Apothecary, a night club for all the denizens that walk the earth to play amongst humans, is about to have her life altered by the Creator of all. The last Arbiter has fallen and a new one must be chosen, one of both Divine and Damned blood. She will be both judge and executioner for the supernatural races, choosing how to punish or bless the souls brought before her. Within her first week with her new status, Damned from all over are disappearing and disturbing videos of Damned being tortured and killed are surfacing. When Lord Monroe, one of The Infernal leaders of the Damned, becomes one of those who are missing, the Damned begin to point their fingers at The Rites; the Divine soldiers who are part of The Order of Abel. The clock is ticking, and it is her responsibility to find who is responsible and pass judgement. With the help of Enoch, an Infernal of the Damned, and Larkan, a Rite of the Order, Nocturna travels to Lord Monroe's estate, hoping to find clues as to what happened to him and all the others. Her integrity and her heart will be pushed and pulled in all directions as she faces the biggest dilemma of her existence; can she make the decision that is right for the lives of all, not the decision that is easiest for her. Will she stay true and lead the world into peace? Or will she choose sides like all the Arbiters before her and lead them all to destruction? **This is a Reverse Harem Dark Romance that is recommended for ages 18+. There are elements of violence, such as torture and a body count, and steamy scenes that are sure to light you on fire. If you’re into that sort of thing, then boy do we have the book for you!

The Arbiter. A being that is judge and jury of both the Damned and the Divine. They have to walk the line between both, never choosing one side over the other. A role Nocturna never saw herself in, even though she's a rare being born of both bloods. She's always found herself pretty evenly balanced though. It's why her club has run so well for so long. However, as soon as the role falls into her hands, everything starts changing. Humans are attacking. Damned are disappearing. Now it all falls on Nocturna to figure it out. She has help though. Problem is, who can she trust?

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love both of these authors on their own. Together, fan-fucking-tastic! They merged together perfectly to bring us this well rounded book. Brandy brings the dark, twisted side while K.B. gives us some lightheartedness and the same comedy feel we got with Lucy. So while we may find ourselves snickering one moment, the next we are somber.

Nocturna is an awesome character. She's strong, independent and wants to do what's right. Which is why the Creator chose her to be the next Arbiter. The guys are all unique. We have Monroe, a Damned who we are instantly drawn to. Larkan, a Divine, who is mysterious and sexy. Then there's Enoch. He's a past lover of Nocturna's and he's got some very dark secrets he is hiding. I'm not sure how I feel about him just yet. I think maybe he really does love her in his own way.

There is a lot of action going on in this book. A lot of secrets and betrayal. There are some pretty intense, darker moments in this book but hey, it's advertised as dark so that's not surprising. There wasn't anything that made me think, oh I should warn someone about that, but that's just me.

I can honestly say that I started reading this book and could not stop until I had finished. It was just that good. You just have to keep going so you can figure out what happened, who did what and what is going to happen next. A definite must read for anyone who needs something different from the sugary sweet romances out there.
